Sparkle
I can't wait to see this movie!
I hope it will hold up well against the original. From the looks of the woman playing Sista. I don't know if she can hold a candle to Lonnette McKee. Yes I'm a little partial…I love Lonnette!!!!
Carmen Ejogo (as Sister) has a pretty impressive resume thus far, having played Coretta Scott King opposite her husband, the mad talented Geoffrey Wright (as Dr. King in the HBO film Boycott) & also she was the absentee mother in Lackawanna Blues. She's got chops so I think she can handle this role just fine. Nice to see the beautiful Tika Sumpter in the mix.
Yes, this should be a good movie remake. And Whitney alone has enough fans to take it to the top of the box office on its opening weekend.
But from the clip, I'm left wondering where the hell was Curtis Mayfield's music? That was as big a star in the first film as the actors ever were!
Thanks for your comments Moan…I didn't know Carmen's name. I do remember her in those pieces of work. She was good. I just see sista more statuesque. I'm hoping Carmen will do a great job.
Yes the Whitney fans are going to take it over the top. I agree also with your Curtis Mayfield music comment. I actually didn't like that Aretha did the soundtrack. I know the actors all weren't great singers but I liked the job they did in the movie.
The thing about original songs or books or artists or casts in films is, in many instances, that first experience becomes our introduction to them & nothing & no one else can ever replace them.
I loved the original "Sparkle" as well. I mean, in her prime, was anyone ever prettier than the glowingly young, caramel-skinned, liquid-eyed Irene Cara? Not even sure this film shoulda been remade. But I'm willing to give it a try.
YOU clearly have a Lonnette McKee jones, my Brotha (smiles). And no one, no matter how pretty, or talented or brilliant will replace it!

Those indelible imprints remain so for a reason.
