What can we do?

I know that there has been a lot of media coverage about teen bullying and suicide. However, there seems to be a lot of talk about it but I don't really see anything being done to prevent it. This horrible trend is increasing rather than decreasing.

I had written a post about a young black man that reportedly committed suicide. I have since found out that it was a hoax. On top of all the disturbing things regarding teen suicide people are now playing games about it...disgusting.

Interestingly enough I can not find this article on the LGBTNATION's website anylonger. Maybe it's true that this article was false or a hoax. However, my comments related to this subject still stand, whether Terrell is a real victim or not.

Every channel has coverage about this trend, it's sensational, is appalling, it's heinous. Talking to parents about it doesn't seem to be the answer as I see it. Oprah asking parents to pay attention to their kids is not working either. Somehow these kids need to feel empowered to take action and protect themselves without fear of retribution.

As sad as this, considering the recent rash of suicides, I'm getting the feeling this one MAY be a hoax. When I tried Googling it for further info, I discovered that this story isn't being covered by any of the major news services... no CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC... only blogs, gay-themed websites, twitter, etc. That's very odd & dubious.

I HOPE & pray it isn't true. And if it's not, then shame on the creators of this sad, vicious, & insensitive rumor!

I don't know anything about Terrell Williams as the link doesn't really say anything at this time, but to your larger point; yes children, people need to learn how to empower their own psyches and there own sense of self-awareness and value so that no matter how bad it seems, death will not be the answer. But I'm afraid that for a lot of people that will be easier said than done.

We must become proactive and teach our children to proactive and well and learn to talk about their fears and desires with us. Think first.

These suicides have got to cease. We have lost to many young people for little or no reason at all.

The death of "Terrel Williams was a suicide hoax pulled by Daric Rawr aka Derick Goff. The picture that he used and that you still have displayed is actually of Donnie Lumpkin's who is rather upset that it was used. Could you please pull the picture?
